2 Stereotypes about Latino men that are true

Does this happen to other Latinas who have been living in the U.S. for a long time? I think that Latinas who, like me, have been living in the U.S. without their families and are married to Gringos will be able to relate! What happens over time is that you start to adapt so much to the American way that certain Latino behavior can become shocking. I call these my cultura moments. Well this week I had a few of those moments in Miami.

Miami, along with Los Angeles, is more Latino than most places in the U.S. My first cultura moment happened the minute I walked into the hotel. The two Latinos who were working as valets for the hotel were so busy helping some young, curvy and scantily-clad Latinas that neither one even noticed that I needed help with my bags. ¡Qué rabia! By the time they noticed it was too late and I told them that they missed out on a big tip por mirones!

The second cultural moment happened while I was seated at the conference between two Gringa clients. We were attentively listening to one of the presenters when suddenly a Latino businessman who was seated in front of us reached over and literally caressed my leg from my knee all the way down to my ankle and mouthed, "Hola mi amor, tanto tiempo." I jumped and awkwardly responded, "Hola." My client said, "Well, that was some hello. You must know him well!" I know that I've done business with him at some point but I couldn't even remember his name! I must have turned purple with embarrassment.

I'm not used to this type of behavior in a business environment! I guess I've gotten used to the American way of saying hello to men in the corporate environment. I wonder how my Gringo would have reacted if he had been there!

ufff it is so true...each time I am getting more and more schocked about latino machist guys..specially here in Miami if you go for example to the mall, there are many of them yelling at their wives or girlfriends controlling any kind of clothing they want to buy...even many of them are who bring to the dressing rooms what they think is the best for their " mujercitas" que horror!! sorry but most of them are cubans, puerto ricans and dominicans. It is so nice when you are a latina like me living with an american guy who lets you go tranquilita to the mall to choose whatever you want to buy with your money and gets happy to see you coming back happy with bags or without them!!
