Alexa Vega's divorce just goes to show why you shouldn't get married young

Any divorce is, of course, a very sad ordeal. I hate reading about any of them, especially when it's a celebrity that I was honestly rooting for. While I wasn't all that surprised to hear that Tom and Katie split up, I am definitely shocked and saddened to hear that 23-year-old half-Colombian star Alexa Vega has filed from divorce from her husband, 36-year-old producer Sean Covel, after less than two years of marriage. My initial shock aside, though, this is EXACTLY why I definitely do not believe in getting married at a young age.

Now, I'm sure some people (well, guys, I imagine) will be happy to hear that the super adorable former Spy Kids star is now a single lady--but it seriously depressed me that she filed documents citing irreconcilable differences in the L.A. Superior Court. I mean, she's only 23! Isn't that too young to just give up?

Then again, she probably just wasn't mature enough to get married at 21 years old. To be honest, I'm 26 and I still don't think I'm mature enough to get married! I do have friends who ARE married, but I also have friends my age who are already getting divorced. That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid by not following in Alexa's footsteps and getting married so young.

In the meantime, though, Alexa seems to be keeping a pretty positive note on her Twitter account by tweeting various quotes about love (like Sam Keen's famous "we come to love not by finding a perfect person, but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly") and saying that she believes that "either you control your attitude or it controls you." I wish her all of the best.

I guess it all depends on the relationship you have and maturity. I was married 5 years ago, I am 4 years older than my husband. He was 20 and I was 24. We are still happily married now 25 and 29 with our 2 1/2 year old daughter and expecting our  prince in 3 months... some people just give up too quickly there are ups and downs its just the matter of having patience and respect.

I was married at 21 and will be celebrating our 10 year anniversary in less than a year.  My husband and I waited on the kids and just had our first 3 months ago. We've had our ups and downs, we've grown from our teens (both were 19 when we met) into adulthood (we both just turned 30, yikes!), and are now starting a family.  That being said, we both agree that we got married way too young! we love each other and work hard at making our relationship work but our advice has always been to live life when you're young and commit to someone later in life.  Everyone will do what they feel is right but i def reccomend waiting until people are (at least) 25 years old if not older to get married.  It is a great experience and is def worth it but there will always be obstacles that need to be overcome and only those truly commited will persevere.
