'Chicks of the United States' is racist & sexist and will make it easier to spot a jerk
I swear, some people kind of make me want to tell them to STFU! One such person is Joe Bovino, author of the new book Field Guide to Chicks of the United States. I don't think that a single book could possibly have ever offended me more. Now, I'm a big fan of the written word (obviously, I'm a writer!) and also a huge supporter of free speech, and I still hate him.
If the title isn't offensive enough, then maybe you'd like to know that the book apparently describes the "most distinctive physical characteristics, vocalizations, behavioral tendencies and mating habits of American Chicks from regional end ethnic subculture (or species) across the country." Ethnic subculture? SPECIES?!

I mean, is this thing for real? How does this guy actually think ANY of this is a good idea? As if calling women a "species" isn't bad enough, he's dividing all of us up based on race as if that has absolutely everything to do with our dating habits. I don't know about you, but most women I meet are pretty different. I've never looked at my friend who's Korean and said to her "Oh, you date this way because you're Korean, while I date this way because I'm Cuban."
How does that even make any sense?!
It gets better: One of the women on the book cover is what the press release describes as the "Taco Belle". She's pretty obviously the stereotype of a Latina (big butt, tan skin, dark hair, sultry-looking) and it's all pretty ridiculous. Is he putting all Latinas under the "Taco Belle" category? Um, WHAT? I'm pretty sure not all Latinos eat tacos, much less date the same way!

I actually really want to meet this guy--and read his book--just so that I can give him a piece of my mind. This is absolutely beyond ridiculous and extremely racist, not to mention sexist. Did I mention that the best part is that they want men to see how many "species" they can "cross off their to-do list" as if women are there for some checklist. I can't believe someone would actually publish this.
