Mom throws baby into the ocean & tries to jump to her death
Some women seriously don't deserve to be called "moms." A 24-year-old Atlantic City woman threw her 1-month-old baby into the ocean and then proceeded to jump in after her. A group of fishermen spotted a lady with a baby acting "unusual" as she started walking towards the rocky shore area. One of them asked her where she was going with the baby, but she didn't answer and kept on walking. Patricia Shurig then did the unthinkable.

While both she and her baby struggled in the water, the two fishermen named Luis Ortiz and Seth Perkins jumped in to save Shurig and her baby. These men were taking a serious risk by getting involved. Who knows how crazy this lady really was, but they valiantly went in there anyway to save the innocent child. We need more people like this in our communities.
Once they were rescued, a retired firefighter named Thomas Bell performed CPR on the baby. "The lady handed me the baby," Bell told reporters. "I did two mouth breathes and turned her over and patted her on the back. She spit up a lot of water. Then I just ran down the jetty and gave her to the EMS people."
Why would a mother do this to her own child? If you want to kill yourself, go right ahead, but don't take your baby with you. They still have a future to live for. Shurig was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and is being held on $100,000 bail.
Maybe she was suffering from postpartum and the depression spiraled out of control. It seems like her consciousness eventually kicked in and she couldn't go through with the attempted murder and suicide. I would want them to run physiological evaluations to see if a mental illness could have caused this. If it didn't, then she deserves a hard sentence and custody to be taken away.
