Toddler shot & killed while playing gun tag
A 26-year-old man from Montana is accused of shooting and killing a 3-year-old boy while they played "gun tag." The 3 year old, Lonato Moran-Allen, had a toy gun that he was using to pretend to shoot Galen Hawk. Hawk, on the other hand, had a loaded 380 handgun. Hawk who had been drinking didn't realize the gun was loaded, he pointed it at Moran-Allen, the gun went off and the little boy was shot. I'm sorry, but who uses a real gun to play with a child?

This terrible accident happened on Wednesday night at around 8:30 p.m. As soon as the little boy was shot, Hawk attempted to perform CPR on him. The little boy was taken to a hospital where he died.
Hawk admitted to police that he had been drinking whiskey and alcoholic lemonade the evening of the shooting. Maybe that's what clouded his judgment, but I still find it hard to believe that anyone would think it was okay to use an actual gun to play with a toddler. It makes no sense to me even if you are absolutely sure that the gun isn't loaded, it still makes no sense.
In court, Lake County Deputy Attorney James Lapotka brought in a gun much like the one Hawk used and said, "He chose to take a handgun, similar to this one. A 380 handgun, loaded, while he was intoxicated, and pointed it at a child."
Hawk is being charged with negligent homicide and is in Lake County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond. Hawk's lawyer said in court on Friday that Hawk would like to be released to attend the boy's funeral. Are you kidding me? I'm sure he feels horrible about what he did and he should. And no, I don't think he should be allowed out of jail to attend the boy's funeral.
If convicted Hawk faces up to 20 years in prison and/or a $50,000 fine. I don't think a $50,000 fine is enough to cover the death of a 3-year-old, do you?
