Little boy weighed less than a toddler after mom & abuelos starved him
A 7-year-old boy has been rescued from a horrific environment in which his mother and grandparents were beating him and starving him, almost to the point of death. He weighed only 25 pounds (that's LESS than a toddler!) by the time he was discovered by caseworkers! Doctors at the UPMC Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania said the boy was a month away from suffering from "a major cardiac event" had he not been removed from that house. And you won't believe the other kinds of torture he was subjected to at home…

The boy's mother, 28-year-old Mary C. Rader and his grandparents, 58-year-old Dennis C. Beighley and 47-year-old Deana C. Beighley, were arrested a week ago after an investigation revealed that Rader's 7-year-old son was frequently beaten with a belt and only fed bits of tuna fish and eggs. His siblings, two sisters and a brother who were healthier, said that their brother would be beaten if he tried to sneak in food without permission. And it gets worse. Not only was he only able to bathe when he was punished with ice cold water, but he'd catch and eat bugs whenever he was allowed to sit on the back porch. How horrible! Who does that to their own flesh and blood?
The boy had been removed from school in August 2013 so teachers couldn't even tell that something was wrong, but luckily, Mercer County Youth Services sent caseworkers to investigate the home in June. The child has since gained 20 pounds since his arrival at the hospital and doctors say food has been his greatest medicine. How sad and infuriating that a mother could bear a child and not care to treat him with the love and care he deserves. He didn't ask to be brought into this world and it's so unfair to put his life in danger just because you have some deeply unresolved mental issues.
His mother and grandparents have been each charged with two counts of aggravated assault, aggravated assault of a victim under 13, unlawful restraint of a minor, false imprisonment, endangering the welfare of children, and criminal conspiracy. They were released on bond and are to return to court July 30. I hope they get what they deserve and hopefully will taste a little or the torture they submitted this poor little boy to in jail.
