Heartbroken dad has to say goodbye to wife the same day his son is born
Robyn Benson was 22 weeks pregnant when she suffered a brain hemorrhage in December and has been on life support because she is brain dead ever since. The 32-year-old newlywed and mother-to-be experienced an excruciating headache around Christmas time and was hospitalized for the pains. She was declared brain dead by the next day, but doctors chose to keep her on life support until her fetus was big enough to be delivered via C-section.
The person suffering the most from this unfortunate incident is Robyn's husband, Dylan who unexpectedly lost his high school sweetheart.

Doctors are reportedly waiting until the fetus is 34 weeks old in order to perform the surgery, but Dylan is conflicted over the tragic situation at hand. He told CBC, a Canadian news site:
On one hand, I can't wait to meet my son and try, and give him the best life possible and try my hardest to be a great dad for him. On the other hand, I know that the day or the day after he is born will be the day that I have to say goodbye to Robyn.
The baby is thankfully developing healthily, therefore Dylan supported his wife's doctors' decision to keep her alive for the time being. He and Robyn chose the name Iver for their unborn son before Robyn fell ill, so the dad-to-be plans to keep that name. Dylan even set up a fundraiser on the siteYouCaring.com, under the name Baby Iver Fund aiming to raise $36,000 for his son.
Surprisingly, he managed to raise over $100,000, which he plans on using towards baby supplies, clothes, the child's education, and caretaking. Dylan says he is overwhelmed by the support he has received and is grateful. "I wish Robyn could see it. It's tough for all of us but I'm just so thankful. Every little bit goes to help me and Iver," he told the news site.
This is such a bittersweet story! It's sad that this man will soon lose the love of his life, but the same day he will also meet his son. I can't imagine the feelings that are rushing through him right now knowing that he won't be able to share their child with his wife after she's gone. At least he can try and prepare for that inevitable day, but it won't compare to the pain he will experience after the fact. My thoughts are with the Benson family and hope that they are blessed with a healthy baby boy to make up for the sadness.
