Miss America 2014 Nina Davuluri's win sets off idiot racist rants

Nina Davuluri, Miss New York, wasn't just crowned the new Miss America 2014 this Sunday in Atlantic City, New Jersey, but she also made history as the first contestant of Indian heritage to win the crown.

It's a beautiful thing and she's a beautiful woman. Unfortunately, it brought out the ugly in some people--the idiot racits you'd expect. While there was a great deal of fans supporting her success on social media, there was also a fair amount of haters that were upset that an Indian woman had won the pageant. Apparently they didn't find the beauty queen "American enough." Who else is reminded of Sebastien de la Cruz and all the hate he got a few months ago? When are people going to learn!?

Nina won the title last night, the second year in a row that a contestant from New York wins. The 24-year-old native from Syracuse entered the competition with dreams of applying to medical school and becoming a doctor. She performed a classical Bollywood fusion dance for her talent competition and is thrilled that the pageant has finally embraced diversity. "I'm thankful there are children watching at home who can finally relate to a new Miss America," she said in a news conference. But the haters of course, weren't so excited. In fact, quite a few ranted on Twitter about how Nina wasn't "American enough," others even went as far as saying, "she looks like a terrorist." Ugh!

But she didn't let it get to her. "I have to rise above that," Nina said. "I always viewed myself as first and foremost American."

It's incredibly upsetting to me that some people still have one narrow view of what an American is supposed to look like. To say that Nina doesn't look "American enough" is flat out ignorant. This nation is made up of so many different racial backgrounds and ethnicities, it's insane that someone would think someone of Indian descent (that was born and raised in New York, mind you!) doesn't well represent our country. And it REALLY pisses me off that someone would even go as far as saying "she looks like a terrorist"! What the hell is wrong with people?

I don't know about you, but I'm SO happy Nina won, you'd think I knew her personally or something! It excites me to see different kinds of beauties finally being represented and gives me hope that one day our kids won't have to deal with racial discrimination. A big congrats to Nina for making this win and shame on everyone that made those disgusting, racists comments!
