18-year-old accidentally shot by friend after prank gone horribly wrong (VIDEO)
An 18-year-old high school student was tragically shot and killed after she jumped out of a closet to scare her friend in a prank gone horribly wrong.
Premila Lal of Colorado was hiding in the home of one of her best friends, 21-year-old Nerrek Daniel Galley, when the tragedy occurred. After she jumped out in an attempt to scare him, Galley mistakenly believed Lal to be an intruder and pulled the trigger, fatally shooting her. Two of Lal's relatives, including her 15-year-old brother were also there at the time.

When they realized what had happened, the three carried Lal to the car and took her to the hospital. But unfortunately, it was too late. Lal died shortly afterward.
Police have arrested Galley on reckless endangerment, as well as several other charges that seem to be unrelated to the shooting. An investigation is still underway, but authorities maintain that the Lal's death were "unintended and extremely tragic."
Though her parents have been left heartbroken, her father, Praveen, says he is not angry at Galley. "We lost a daughter, so we don't want anybody else to lose their son, you know, especially when it was accident," he told CBS Denver.
What an absolutely heartbreaking story. I can't even begin to imagine what her family must be going through now, especially given the circumstances surrounding Lal's death. But though I know it was an accident and that Galley never intended to kill his friend, I can't help but think it was extremely reckless of him to have been carrying around a loaded gun, particularly since younger kids were in the house at the time. He might have been trying to protect himself, but his actions were rash and uncalled for at best. If he had just taken a few seconds longer to even look at who he was shooting at, Lal might still be alive today.
I only hope Lal's loved ones, especially her parents, find a way to cope with this unspeakable loss together. My heart goes out to all of them.
