Girl goes into labor in dorm room & bleeds to death after stillbirth (VIDEO)

A 19-year-old college student was discovered dead in her dorm room on Tuesday after giving birth to a stillborn fetus over the weekend. Ayaanah Gibson was studying at Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina, and her mother and grandmother--who together describe her as "loving" and "happy"--claim she could not have known that she was pregnant. Medical examiners have reported that she bled to death due to complications related to the birth of her baby.

"The Benedict College family is deeply saddened this evening about the unexpected loss of one of its students," the school said in a written statement. "Please join the Benedict College family in praying for our fallen Tiger and her family."

Although they were hesitant to discuss their reasons, Gibson's family is convinced that because of how they learned of her pregnancy, Ayaanah--who was also a five-year cancer survivor--must have been unaware of it herself. According to CNN.com, the family claims that doctors also believe that Ayaanah did not know she was pregnant, despite the fact that she was 32 weeks along.

It's hard to imagine the pain her surviving family members must be experiencing after tragically losing two very young lives, and even harder to imagine that it took so long for her body to be discovered by authorities. Though the coroner's office has reported that there were no signs of foul play, there is some degree of mystery here. I can only hope that her family is able to find peace with the situation.
