8-year-old girl says teen raped her in public library bathroom in most horrific news today

A 13-year-old boy was charged with second-degree rape and unlawful imprisonment after he lured an 8-year-old girl into a bathroom and sexually assaulted her. The incident occurred at the Countee Cullen Library in Harlem on Wednesday after the girl walked in with her 54-year-old babysitter and 8-year-old brother.

Reportedly the victim knew the suspect and saw him on the second floor of the library after wandering away from her caretaker. Security cameras then caught the kids exchanging words before the awful attack happened.

The New York Daily News reports that the sexual attack went on for as long as 20 minutes and that the boy forced the girl to kiss and perform oral sex on him. He even locked the bathroom door to prevent her from escaping.

The girl didn't report the attack until later in the evening when she revealed to her mother what had happened. The teen was known as a troubled child who sadly jumped from foster home to foster home. He lived with his father last and neighbors said he was always out and about on his own.

The boy was arrested on Thursday after he was identified through surveillance videos and found at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. The library remained closed on Thursday as police continued investigation.

This story seriously sent chills up my spine because it shocks me how young the victim and suspect are. What has this world come to when 13-year-olds are sexually assaulting children even younger than them?! This boy clearly needs help and prosecutors should consider having him evaluated by a psychotherapist. My thoughts are with the little girl as she recoups through this trauma that will stick with her for the rest of her life.
