Horrible mom put her screaming baby in an ice chest to make it stop

Being a parent is not easy especially when your child is screaming. If you have an infant who is screaming, you will do just about anything you can to sooth them and help them calm and quiet down, but any responsible parent would NOT do what Jami Jo Ranson is accused of doing to her infant. The 38-year-old Ponchatoula, Louisiana mother (I use the term lightly) allegedly put her infant in an ice chest that also had a fuel can in it and then closed the lid, while she sat down in a chair nearby.

The incident happened on September 2 a little after midnight. A witness saw what happened and heard the baby screaming the entire time while the mother did nothing. Out of fear for the baby's life, the witness got the baby out of the ice chest and called police.

Police arrested Ranson and later found her in possession of prescription drugs. She has been charged with child desertion, possession of schedule IIV controlled dangerous substance, and introduction of contraband into a penal institution. Her bond is set at $10,000.

I'm so happy the witness did something. This could have ended horribly. The baby was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure and was deemed unharmed. I hate it when they say "unharmed" about children who are abused because the harm is there, you just can't see it. The Department of Child Services has taken custody of the child.
