Modeling agents who recruited models at anorexia clinics are truly disgusting
Unfortunately, there's nothing shocking about fashion models suffering from some kind of eating disorder. But what's even more disturbing is the fact that modeling agency scouts have been parading outside of Sweden's largest eating disorder clinic trying to recruit critically thin patients for catwalk talent. This is the sickest thing I've ever heard of. What the heck is wrong with people?

Just when I thought we were on our way to making some progress with the new "Say no to anorexia" ads that recently came out, the fashion industry takes another step back with this troubling incident. According to The Local reports, it got SO bad that the clinic literally had to change where and what time patients could take their daily outside walks because they kept getting stopped by recruiters. One agency scout even had the nerve to approach a 14-year-old girl who was so thin and frail, she had been confined to a wheelchair. Unbelievable!
This really says a lot about the fashion industry. Not only do they encourage their models to lose weight, but they really could care less about women's health. Seriously, because if they really were looking for healthy, slim girls they wouldn't be searching for them at a eating disorder clinic. They clearly were trying to scout the frailest, skinniest girls they could find and it didn't matter to them how physically sick they were.
According the Metro, some of the patients at the center have a body mass as low as 14. Mind you an ideal adult range is anywhere between 18.5 and 24.9 BMI. There's no doubt in my mind that these agencies are well aware of the fact that these girls are seriously ill, and also that 40 percent of models suffer from eating disorders. Despite what they may believe, eating disorders are a very VERY serious problem. In fact, a study done by the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders found that 5 to 10 percent of anorexics die within 10 years after contracting the disease. Around 20 percent of them die a premature death from complications relating to the disorder whether it's suicide or heart problems and only 30-40 perecent fully recover. Wow!
It's frustrating that people still have yet to recognize the seriousness of this dangerous and fatal disease. Honestly, how many more women need to die before the fashion industry finally gets it?
