Sorry Ann Coulter, just about every Latina out there works harder than you do!

WTF? That was pretty much my immediate reaction after reading the hateful, inflammatory piece of garbage passing as journalism that American's sweetheart (I'm being sarcastic here) Ann Coulter just posted about Hispanics in America. Bearing the cutesy, and totally grammatically incorrect title, "America Nears El Tipping Pointo"--Get it? Because to speak Spanish all you need to do is add an "o" to the end of everything! Insert eye-roll here--Coulter just about manages to alienate every Latino in America by making assertions based on stereotypes and racism.

After openly stating that the demographic shift in the United States, especially among young people is to blame for the recent presidential election results (read: White people are no longer in the majority, run for your lives!) Coulter follows up with the idiotic statement that Latinos are all underclass immigrants looking for government handouts. Yup--she actually went there folks!

The only problem with her essay is that pesky little thing called FACTS. I'm not sure if Coulter was consciously deciding to wage an all out race war against Latinos, or if she is just too stupid and lazy to do her research, but a recent Pew Center study proved this assertion to be patently false:

Non-Hispanic whites accounted for 64 percent of the population in 2010 and received 69 percent of the entitlement benefits. In contrast, Hispanics made up 16 percent of the population but received 12 percent of the benefits, less than their proportionate share.

Sorry to burst Coulter's bubble, but while we're at it let's look at her erroneous claim that: "Hispanics are less likely to be married, less likely to go to church, more supportive of gay marriage." Last time I checked, Latinos were also LESS likely to get divorced (which evens out the whole marriage thing), and actually pretty darn religious. I'm not even going to to address the support of same-sex marriage because I'm proud to be open-minded enough to accept the fact that--religious or not--we have no right to impose our beliefs on anyone else.

"Rather than being more hardworking than Americans, Hispanics actually work about the same as others, or, in the case of Hispanic women, less," Coulter continues. When I got to this line, my blood ran cold. I'm not even sure that this woman understands what a real, hard day of work means. She sits behind a desk, writing columns purposely meant to hurt and disparage entire groups of people in the country she pretends to love, while sowing seeds of disunity, mistrust, ignorance and hate. I'm sure it must be super hard to prance around all day, blowing hot air everywhere. Coulter can't even manage to be honest about her age, how are we supposed to trust her as anything else?

Oh yeah, we shouldn't. If Coutler had bothered to do any sort of research at all before publishing this garbage, she would've learned that since 2000, Latinos have started twice as many small businesses as any other group in the United States. Geesh, we sure are a lazy bunch, huh? Taking care of all of our kids (the Latino birthrate in America is actually at an all time low, but facts shmacts) while simultaneously starting our own businesses.

As a Latina woman, I'm sick and tired of hearing all these neo-conservatives trying to pigeon-hole minorities as poor, useless, government-dependent leeches. We didn't vote for Obama because he offered us free "stuff," we voted for Obama because Republicans and conservatives are reprepesented by hateful, horrible racists like Ann Coulter and Bill O'Reilly who do not believe that we bring any value at all to the table.

Yes, demographics are shifting. Yes, conservatives like Coulter are going to have to deal with it. Yes, by 2050, one in every three Americans will be Latino. Does this mean the end of civilization as we know it? No--but I do hope it means the end of these racists, masquerading themselves as concerned citizens who want nothing else than to divide and disparage entire groups of the hardworking people who make this country so great.

Did it make you mad that Ann Coulter talked all this smack about us? Let her know by sending her a tweet @AnnCoulter, just be sure not to follow her and give her any more clout!
