Latina woman deemed 'too fat to kill' is exonerated (VIDEO)

Mayra Rosales, the 1,100 pound woman from Texas, claimed that she accidentally killed her 2-year-old nephew Eliseo Jr.--but some are saying that she was "too fat to kill" him.

In TLC's new documentary, Half-Ton Killer (which airs on October 10), her lawyer confesses that he knew right away that something was off about the Latina woman's story of rolling over and crushing the young boy in 2008. At the time, she was living with her sister Jaime in Sullivan, Texas, and on one March night, her nephew was rushed to the hospital, where he later died. So what actually happened?

The truth will surprise you.

Her attorney, Sergio Valdez, says that Mayra took the blame for her nephew's death so that her sister's other kids "would still have a mom," and because she felt that she was going to die anyways--even after seeing her sister "use a brush to hit Eliseo repeatedly on his arms, legs and head," according to the Huffington Post. So she concocted the story, saying that she had accidentally rolled over on him and killed the child--but her story didn't add up when her lawyer asked her to reenact how it happened.

Of course, she couldn't do it. Mayra "broke down and started crying", eventually confessing (several months later) and finally agreeing to she's testify against her sister Jaime after she saw that Jaime continued to abuse her other children. Now her sister is in jail serving a 15-year sentence for Eliseo's death and Mayra is in the hospital due to her deteriorating health--but she's exonerated of the crimes, at least.

It's a pretty horrific story and I'm truly saddened by the fact that Mayra tried to protect her abusive sister to the point that she would blame herself for a child's death. At the same time, though, I'm oddly happy and sad that she was proven innocent because she was "too fat to kill", yet the fact that she now live sin a hospital is upsetting, too. Now not only have the children lost their mother (who is rightfully in jail) but also their aunt because she is too obese.

I hope Mayra will be able to seek help and get better for her other nieces and nephews, who she obviously adores.
