Dear Lolo Jones: Comparing being a virgin to training for the Olympics is LAME

I can appreciate Lolo Jones' desire to save herself for marriage. It's her choice and I respect her for it.

What I can't respect, however, is her recent declaration that saving her virginity for her future husband is harder than training for the Olympics. It's like comparing apples and oranges. Her statement makes no sense and, much worse, I think undermines both the reality of training for the Olympics as well as anyone's decision to remain chaste before marriage.

First of all, this has me thinking about why she's making this big announcement now, just before the Olympics. To me it honestly feels fake and like she's just trying to call extra attention to herself. She certainly wouldn't be the first celebrity to use her virginity status to get attention.

Secondly, if she thinks keeping her virginity around is so difficult, then why is she still doing it? Obviously she's spending too much time thinking about it and not enough time focusing on what she should actually be doing, like taking her training more seriously.

And, to be honest, if she thinks her virginity is such a gift to be shared with her husband, does that mean that she only dates men who are virgins, too? I would assume that it's a gift she would want returned, no? Otherwise, she's just playing herself.

I think if Lolo Jones wants to keep her virginity for God-knows-how-many-more-years, that's her choice. But I really don't like her comparing her personal sexual journey to her training--if it's so hard, then don't do it. If you still want to do it, then stop complaining about it. Period. She just comes off like an attention-seeking media junkie. And, well, since we're all talking about it, then I guess her mission has been accomplished.

What do you think of Lolo Jones saying that staying a virgin is harder than training for the Olympics? Do you agree that it seems she's only saying that now to draw attention? Share with us in the comments below!
