If you don't speak Spanish, no free pizza for you!
Finally somebody will reward those of us who speak Spanish! Pizza Patrón, a carry-out pizza chain with headquarters in Dallas, is giving away free pizzas to those who order in Spanish the evening of June 5. So, if you want to get free pizza, you might want to forget all your negative thoughts about my native language and give it a try. Good thing it doesn't even have to be grammatically correct or perfectly pronounced Spanish, as long as it's Spanish. Take that anti-bilingualism supporters!

I must say, though, that I have no idea why some in the Latino community are complaining about this and lashing out at the pizza chain.
Check out what the president of Hispanic Marketing Group in Nashville told USA Today: "Maybe they thought it was a cute thing to do, but I think it's discrimination." Say what? So it's okay for others to discriminate against Latinos because they don't speak English or speak it with an accent or not grammatically correct? That's ridiculous!
And then, of course, there's the ever so present conservative non-Hispanic white person, like Peter Thomas, chairman of the Conservative Caucus, saying this kind of crap:
It seems to punish people who can't speak Spanish, and I resent that. In public areas, people should be speaking English, and that includes pizza parlors.
Really, dude? Maybe it's time you started learning Spanish instead of advocating for English as the country's spoken language so you can also get your free pizza!
Pizza Patrón has locations in seven states, mostly in the south and southwest, including Colorado. So I plan on taking full advantage of my ability to speak perfect Spanish to get a free large peperoni pizza in a couple of weeks. How cool is that!
What do you think? Will you be ordering your free pizza in Spanish from Pizza Patrón come June 5? Let us know by leaving a comment.
